RIP Patrick Swayze

I was really sad to hear that Patrick Swayze lost his battle with pancreatic cancer today. When I was a tweeny/teen I think I watched Dirty Dancing every 3 days! I LOVE THAT MOVIE, so I just wanted to take the time and say RIP to the first man to dance his way into my life!

We will miss you!!!

Greaaaat day today!!

I left work early today to attend our annual summer outing. We went bowling at Lucky Strikes, I chilled and hanged out with my favorite chicks at work! I really realized how much I LOVE these girls today. I can honestly say I found a family of friends who I can truly keep it real with, who doesn't judge me but at the same time tells me like it is when need be. We talked about everything from work to relationships, we cracked endless jokes, we drank and just naturally had a GREAT TIME.

BIG UP TO SANGRIA WEDNESDAYS AT FASHION 40!

Coco Excerpts - Part 1

I wanted him to kiss me there
I wanted him to kiss me here
I was feeling like I would just explode
I was feeling like I had no control
I couldn't stand to feel his kisses
I started to think about how much I could miss this
I wanted him to lick it,
I wanted him to bite it and light it up
I simply crave that fire touch
Oooo la la how I want it so much
I miss the days that we were together
I think I'll start by sending him a letter.

Guess.....

Who is bizaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!

I found my username and password YAAAAAAAY!!

Good Hair by Chris Rock

Kudos for Chris Rock on filming a documentary about "Good Hair" which I suspect is targeted towards and addressing the whole idea and thought process of what is considered "good hair" amongst the African American community. Chris Rock said he got the idea when his daughter came to him crying and asked, “Daddy, how come I don’t have good hair?”

"Good Hair visits hair salons and styling battles, scientific laboratories, and Indian temples to explore the way black hairstyles impact the activities, pocketbooks, sexual relationships, and self-esteem of black people."

My hair is all natural and curly and it always amazes me when people say you have "good hair" because the first thing I think is try running a comb through this with out some leave-in-conditioner or water or something!

But anyways I can't wait to check the documentary out when it hits theaters! One of the producers for the documentary said that "there needs to be a real discussion among black woman about when their daughters should get a relaxer." I TOTALLY agree, I cannot understand the thought process behind giving a 4 year old a perm!! Little girls need their hair to grow and develop before exposing them to such a potent chemical. And besides when you have a perm you have to know how to treat your hair (being that it is in a weaker state than when natural) and a 4 year old definitely does not know how to take care of permed processed hair!

It's very sweet and warm and its long-lasting. I sprayed some on in the store and hours laters I smelled just as sweet as when I first applied the perfume. It smells like a blend of vanilla, apricot and pear. Check it out!

breakfast at tiffany's

It's amazing how much I can understand Holly in this movie! I think I'm going to have a "breakfast at Tiffany's" weekend and go Window shopping on 5th ave! LOL

For those who never seen this movie, check it out, here is a quick synopsis from rottentomatoes.com:

Synopsis: Blake Edwards's adaptation of Truman Capote's classic novella is ideally cast with Audrey Hepburn in the role of Holly Golightly. The free-spirited gamine darts about New York, feted by wealthy men drawn to her megawatt charm and elegance, hoping that the party will never end. After "shopping" in front of Tiffany's window, she meets aspiring writer Paul Varjak (George Peppard), and they begin a platonic friendship. "Sponsored" by an older woman (Patricia Neal) whose interest in the young man is more than literary, he can identify with her experience better than most, taking it upon himself to protect her from the worst aspects of city life. But she seems to need little protection from such friends as incarcerated mob boss Sally Tomato (Alan Reed), who pays her to carry messages to Sing Sing. With her infectious joi de vivre, she helps Paul break through a paralyzing case of writer's block. But when the genial Doc Golightly (Buddy Ebsen) appears in New York in search of Holly, the sources of her gossamer lifestyle suddenly become clearer. Edwards's lighter-than-air romantic comedy, set in a fantasy New York, rides on the irresistible charm of Hepburn at her peak, as well as a memorable score by Henry Mancini. Although George Axelrod's screenplay is as different from the original story as George Peppard is from the young Capote, the film succeeds on its own terms.

Face Mask

For those of you looking to save money and totally confused on what to buy with the billions of face products out there, I have an answer to your prayers! LOL. I tried this face mask at home and it did wonders on my face after the first application!

Ingredients:
Strawberries
1 Cup of Vanilla Yogurt
1 tbs of Honey

Blend the strawberries and pour into a cup, mix in the yogurt and honey and stir together. (What I found is that the cup of yogurt was too much, you can eat 1/4 and use approximately 3/4 to make your face mask LOL!) Then apply the mask to your face and leave on for about 10 mins and then rinse off. Your face will feel totally brand new! And this will end up costing you no more than $8 bux!!

I used about 5 strawberries, 3/4 cup of yogurt and the honey and I have enough face mask for about 2 weeks, maybe even longer! I am very picky and a harsh critic of face products so trust me this remedy gets the stamp of approval! So go ahead and try it and do let me know what you think.

Fierce woman in Time

From time to time I like to spotlight different woman in history who inspire me and make me proud to be a W-O-M-A-N. This month I would like to spotlight the exotic beauty Ms. Josephine Baker (June 3rd, 1906 to April 12, 1975). Most people might know of her for the infamous banana skirt outfit she wore for a performance in Paris in 1927. Here is a little bio I found on her website:

Josephine Baker sashayed onto a Paris stage during the 1920s with a comic, yet sensual appeal that took Europe by storm. Famous for barely-there dresses and no-holds-barred dance routines, her exotic beauty generated nicknames "Black Venus," "Black Pearl" and "Creole Goddess." Admirers bestowed a plethora of gifts, including diamonds and cars, and she received approximately 1,500 marriage proposals. She maintained energetic performances and a celebrity status for 50 years until her death in 1975. Unfortunately, racism prevented her talents from being wholly accepted in the United States until 1973.

What inspires me about this woman is that she dropped out of school at the age of 12 and lived on the streets, eating food from garbage cans and sleeping in cardboard shelters. She would perform on the streets which is where she was discovered and recruited at age 15. She later traveled to Paris to perform and became an instant success, appearing almost nude on stage and tantalizing the audience with her exotic dancing. Not only did she grace Paris with her presence but her style also represented one aspect of the "Art Deco" fashion that was popular at the time.

She was the most successful American entertainer working in France in her prime. In addition to being a musical star, Baker also starred in three films which found success only in Europe because of how prominent racism was in America at the time. The three films are Siren of the Tropics (1927), Zouzou (1934) and Princesse Tam Tam (1935). Now if that's not FIERCE I don't know what is!! So I wanna take this time to salute Josephine Baker for her charisma, her originality and for the legend that she became!

Stay Healthy on the Inside

I saw this ad in the newspaper for a Lecture on the discussion of staying healthy and living well in recognition of National Nutrition Month. (I didn't even know March was National Nutrition month...)

So I decided I am going to attend the lecture next week Tuesday (March 24th, 2009 - 6 pm to 7:30 pm) at NYU Langone Medical Center. I am really looking forward to joining in on the discussion. The benefits of healthy nutrition, yoga and new exercise techniques are all up for discussion. The presenters are Jennifer Crum, MS, RD, Supportive Services Program, NYC Clinical Cancer Center and Laurelle Kilmartin, DPT, CLT-LANA, CSCS, Senior Physical Therapist.

I am currently in the mental preparation stage of changing the way I eat and adding exercise to my daily routine so that I can practice a more healthy lifestyle. And YES I DID say mental preparation stage! :-) We are talking about changing years and years of not so good habits that I have adapted through out my life time!

If anyone is interested in attending let me know and I can give you the RSVP information.

Legalize it?

So I'm hearing that California is considering legalizing weed to help its ailing state budget. I don't know the details as yet of how this would be enacted, but my first thoughts are it's very hypocritical! All of a sudden its okay to legalize weed just for the sake of making money for the state?

What message does this send out to our children? Isn't this the same as the common drug dealer selling for profit? How is it now okay because the government can profit from it?

What are you thoughts?

Get MAD!!

For those who know me really well know that when I express anger I ALWAYS feel extremely extremely guilty afterwards, no matter if I know I'm right I always feel like the situation was not that serious to get so upset. I noticed that we women tend to feel this way more than our male counterparts. I guess this goes with the whole "girls are meant to be seen but not heard" meantality.

So when I stumbled across this in a magazine it made me feel better:

Lashing Out
Ninety-two percent of women Glamour polled say they vent their frustration by yelling.

Getting mad at Pals
A survey shows that 56 percent of young women tend to get angry at people they actually like.

Road Rage
Forty-six percent of women honk at, shout at or give the finger to rude drivers.

In light of these findings ladies I say GET MAD!! and don't feel guilty about it, anger is healthy sometimes, it just makes you more human, and less likely to be taken advantage of!!!

Beyonce... Etta James controversy

I'm really confused about all of this Beyonce/Etta James controversy when Beyonce has done a beautiful job of honoring the great singer. See you tube video above...
Apparently Etta James is saying that she cannot stand Beyonce and she was upset that B performed her song for President Obama and wife Michelle's first dance. Can't we all just get along!?!
